Product Description The Eee PC 1005HA-EU1X Seashell Netbook Computer from ASUS is a tiny portable computer. The 2.4-pound system won't weigh you down during mobile use and won't occupy a lot of space when using it at your desk. Its 10.1" screen is perfect for watching videos. It features standard 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, allowing you to hop on to wireless networks and hotspots with ease. The Eee PC is an excellent choice for anyone else who requires a compact, yet usable, system. It will allow you to check e-mail, perform basic office tasks, watch videos and play games. Most importantly, it won't weigh you down.

Superior to newer Toshiba NB205-N325BN July 11, 2010 Innercr 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading some of the reviews that were left to rate this machine, I could not help jumping in to add my 2 cents. I will try to be concise and to the point:
This Asus Eee is superior to many other netbooks in this category, namely Toshiba NB205-N325BN (that I own and planning to sell) in all aspects except perhaps a battery life. I have just bought this Asus model as a gift to my relative and have been able to test it while setting this up.
Asus Eee has these Key Advantages:
* Great textured mouse pad, much better than one found on Toshiba
* Speaker is also much louder
* Performance is not as lagging as Toshiba's
* Asus has Windows XP! This is really huge! Windows 7 Starter should never have been on netbooks to begin with. W7 Starter is pure trash with 90% limitations and is very, very slow despite my attempts to optimize the kernel, etc. Never buy a netbook with W7 Starter - you will regret it!
* Better Keyboard than on most netbooks
* Non-reflective active TFT screen
* Wireless LAN card N type vs B/G type still found on Toshiba
* Very light weight
Having stated all these facts, I am going to sell my Toshiba netbook and buy this Asus gem instead.
good option July 2, 2010 Carlos at a good price you really get a good netbook, but be awaer that it only has a n270 processor with a 1.6 Ghertz speed, if what you only want is to surf on the internet this netbook is quite convinient. nice design low in weight - 1.1 kg. the key board is big enough for typing comfortly, but battery life lasts no more than 3 hours.
Awesome product, great price, very light and well made June 25, 2010 J. Goodman (Denver) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You would be crazy to pay 2x for an iPad that doesn't even have a keyboard. For the price, I think this one of the best portable computers on the market. Battery lasts very long, it is extremely light, and has more than enough computing juice to get what you need done. Any you can not beat the price.
Quality issue: Battery died after 8 months June 5, 2010 Doc Soon (Bosotn, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the 1005HA-EU1X-BK with a 4-hour battery in Oct 2009. The netbook fitted our needs well and was very convenient around the house. However, it seems that this netbook has some serious problems with its power system. First, I soon ran into the problem of the charger not working after leaving the charger plugged in the power outlet but without connecting to the netbook. After calling Amazon for a replacement, I found out online that cooling down the charger brings it back to life again.
Then there was about half a year of happy experience with it, with about one charge cycle every couple of days. Then, about a month ago, I noticed that the battery would never charge to 100% and the orange charging light would always blink, even if I left it plugged in all night. Then about a week ago, the battery suddenly died when I plugged in the charger. The battery indicator always showed 0%, and the orange indicator light always blinked as if it was charging. The battery indicator never showed anything more than 0%, and as soon as I unplug the charger, the netbook turned off due to lack of power.
Conveniently, Asus only has a 6-month warranty for battery. I called Asus technical support, and was guided through updating some driver which had no effect. I also updated the BIOS to the latest, which did not have any effect on this either. According to Asus technical support, my only option probably is to buy a new battery.
I think it is outrageous to have to buy a new battery after a mere 8 month of usage. I'm grumpy, but I can't think of a better alternative. I like the netbook, but definitely not the battery.
