I have had this netbook for almost a year now, and I can vouch for how near to perfection this PC is for what it was designed for: br / br /Portability: It cannot get more portable than this. Coming with its own sleeve, a very small size factor and an exceptional battery life, this netbook is the most portable computer I can think of. Slide it into any bag and it is only as space-hugging as a normal book. The weight is not too much either; the build quality is also extremely solid (except in the middle of the keyboard, where it can bend a teeny bit, but no worries). Most of all the screen's hinge is quite sturdy so that if you lift the netbook from one corner when it is open it will be like taking a book or some vessel and not like taking a delicate expensive laptop computer. Which brings me back to why I love this netbook: you can handle it like a calculator. Or a Phone. Or a book. And it still works *just* fine. br / br /Speed: It has Windows XP, which boots up in 30 secs on average (now that I have installed so many programs over the year it might take a bit longer but that still is reversible). It has Windows XP, which takes up only 20% of its (more than enough) 1 GB RAM and lets you do whatever else you want to do with the PC. The processor itself is not blazingly fast however. Which will now breakdown for various activities as follows: br / Browsing: I advise using Google Chrome or Opera since opening many tabs in Firefox or IE can be a big resource hog. Gmail works fine but takes a few seconds to load and youtube or other flash video sites will load fine as long as you don't open hi-def videos. This Netbook clearly is not going to let you play hi-def videos off the internet. But thats a small price to pay. Patience is a virtue and the few seconds this PC makes you wait here and there is more than compensated for in the many other ways it helps you get stuff done. The end point is that browsing can be fine as long as you don't load too many resource hungry tabs into the browser at the same time. br / Office-work: MS Office 2007 works just fine with no speed problems at all whatsoever. br / Watching movies: As long as its not HD (you wouldnt need it in this screen anyway) this small wonder can play movies pretty well in its amazing screen (more later). br / Other stuff: Other things pretty much work just fine too. I have put the PC through many different hurdles, installing linux, image and video editing, programming, using MATLAB and many other stuff and it would never fail me and always make sure that I get my job done. br /Also, there has never been a problem with the heat either. br / br /Screen: A 10.1 inch LED screen at 1280x600. This resolution is small, which is actually good. Because though the screen is small, the text and icons on the screen won't be; which means that you will have lesser screen real estate but you will never have a problem with your eye straining to see small objects (which is the case with non-netbook small-screen laptops). Thanks to the LED backlight, the screen's contrast and color is extremely rich (very apparent when you want to see movies in a brightly lit room or balcony) aided by its oh-so-unique Matte screen. In this era of glass-macbooks, I'm still glad that some people keep making Matte-screen displays. The difference is simply amazing. For giving up maybe one small hiccup in its look, you gain many times over in terms of usability of the screen even in direct sunlight, leave alone bright rooms with lights on the back. If you think that you might not have much use for a matte-screen, you probably are wrong. Add to it, there's a dedicated "back-light off" button to instantly switch off and on the LED backlight, saving more on the battery that already goes very long. br / br /Keyboard and Touchpad: br / Chicklet Keyboard (very important when you buy a netbook; prevents lots of mis-typing events) - Check. br / Multitouch touchpad that is actually useful (scroll, zoom, etc) - Check. br / Shift key in a non-awkward position - Check. br / Comfortable and sturdy palmrest - check. br / Very useful Fn-shortcuts for changing resolution, connecting monitors and fiddling with controls - check. br / br /Webcam, speaker and Mic: Of Really good quality, good enough to Skype without any accessories required. Speakers are pretty loud and quite good for such small size. br / br /Connectivity: 3 USB ports, Ethernet and VGA. What more do you want?? br / br /Battery: 8.5 hours straight. No ideal-practical divides. I can enumerate the scenarios I have had with a single full battery charge and having 15% remaining in the end: br / Attend 2 four-hour classes with Wifi on, web browsing and including 4 hours of external projection br / Watch 4 DivX movies br / Standby for a week followed by watching 3 divx movies br / Watch 3 movies over Wifi (streaming) with loudspeakers br / Work on VPN over Wifi for 6 hours + browse for 1 more br / Watch a complete season of a TV show (no kidding!) br / br /And so many more! Literally, this netbook stands true to its claim of an all-day computing machine. Make no mistake in estimating it's battery life! br / br /Price: I have owned many other laptops but this one tops the value for money list. It's so inexpensive and yet so useful that even if it works only for one year, it would be more than worth it. (BTW I have had no hardware problems till now, not even a single weird restart!) br / br /So to conclude, in my opinion this is the best portable computer money can buy.

While I have not used this computer very much I did play with it a bit when it first arrived and was very pleased. The startup time was very quick and once I purchase the next turn all CD/DVD drive I was able to load some additional programs with no difficulty. I think this computer will be very helpful for me in my job where I have to travel regularly and it will be nice not to have to lug around an additional bag just hold the computer.

This is a handy device. The battery life is good although not as long as advertised. br /It downloads fast; the keyboard is quite comfortable to use; the screen is fine; there are sufficient port, inputs, etc. br /However, during an upgrade from ASUS (not from Microsoft, Adobe nor any of the browsers which I have installed, the system CRASHED and I had to use the recovery disc to reinstall Windows XP. So far, the netbook is working well (cross fingers). br / br /Also, the registration of the product took a few tries because my password was continuously rejected and the writing on the website is terrible. New translators ought to be hired to write correctly and more clearly. Hopefully,I'll not need to work with their customer service. br / br /Thus,instead of 5 stars, I think that 4 stars is sufficient.

I am a recently retired computer systems engineering professional that bought this on a whim to serve as a vacation travel system so I can check e-mail, flight reservations, weather, etc. As a major bonus it is a full fledged computer though not high powered but it has great video, networking, more than adequate disk. The KBD and touchpad are excellent. I bought it with XP Home and installed Office 2007 (which I do not care for [Office 2003 is just fine] but it came with the netbook) as well as numerous other applications. I had heard ASUS makes good products so I gambled --- and won the lottery as this machine for only $319 is a bargain. I am just as happy with this as the numerous Dell Latitude laptops I've had. This quality of this far exceeds what I expected. Thank you, ASUS. br /

The computer works great. However I believe that the finish is a little cheap. The keys are a little hard to use and I can see cheap materials. The battery last long enough for a class or conference usage. It is a good product for the price I paid.
