Small and configurable April 28, 2010 Don Sausa (Florida USA) I recommend this model because you can easily have access to the hard drive, memory, etc. Other ASUS netbooks do not offer the same luxury. The chasis is locked in with the newer models. You won't be able to upgrade the hard drive without killing your warranty.
Black Screen March 19, 2010 Christiane B. Moreira (Brazil - Rio de Janeiro) I finished the instalation of Windows, after I reboot, and now I just can see a black screen, the power led on and nothing more works.
Disappointed February 23, 2010 A. Blackmon I got this ASUS netbook for internet use. The display and keyboard are fine and are easy to see. It is great for trips, or for sitting in the recliner to do the banking. It is light and easy to use. However, it does not take the place of our laptop or desktop computers both of which are superior.
The Windows XP operating system freezes up from time to time, especially when the battery is low. The battery life lasts two hours at most, not the seven hours boasted by the manufacturer, so you need to use the cord. Even though it is only 1GB, my husband's 1GB laptop runs faster, even though it is several years old. This may be due to the different operating systems. His runs Vista.
If you are thinking of this netbook for your college student in an effort to save money, DON'T. They need good laptop computers that are fast and can run a variety of applications with good operating systems. On the other hand, if you just want to do social networking or shopping, the ASUS is adequate.
Outstanding netbook. November 30, 2009 Justin E. Upton (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This netbook is everything I thought it would be and I love everything about it. I purchased mine through Newegg for 20 bucks cheaper, free shipping and a free notebook mouse. They've since deactivated this netbook on their site, so I decided to review on here rather than let my opinion go to waste.
Right out of the box it's very snappy and processes everything super quick. Even with 1gb of ram it's runs most everything very well, (Firefox, OpenOffice, Pidgin and AVG to name a few.) Youtube videos stream well, but HD quality can be choppy (I'm not picky.)
The keyboard is intuitive and is easy to type on with even for someone with larger hands. As far as wireless signal, I've had absolutely no trouble picking up or maintaining strong signals. The screen is bright and the colors are vibrant. Probably the biggest surpirse from owning this is that it took no time at all to adjust from a 22" LCD to this little 10" screen.
Battery? I didn't expect to pull the advertised 7 hours, however, I can usually do a sweet 4.5-5 hours with regular use. I have not tested the built-in web-cam thoroughly, so I can't pass judgement on that.
I have only found two cons and they're, in my opinion, minor. As other reviewers here have said, there is no light for caps lock. Super minor, I know - but if you're typing in a password it can be frustrating. Keeping in mind that I've never owned a laptop before, the other "con" I've found is the trackpad. You could chalk it up that I'm not used to it yet, but it can be a little sporadic and is super sensitive. I use a mouse the majority of the time anyway, so it doesn't really bother me.
Overall, I give it 5 stars. I have no regrets buying this netbook and I would recommend it.
Decent Linux platform November 27, 2009 J. Montgomery (Oregon, USA) Although this netbook seems to be the oddball of the Eee PC line (seems it was more or less a quick pitstop between the darlings of the series - the 901 and the 1000HE/1005HA), it has performed more than admirably for my uses. I adopted this netbook after my wife "acquired" (read: borrowed and never gave back) my Eee PC 901 running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04. If you are a fan of F/LOSS, I think you will be quite pleased with this netbook. For the price, enough time has passed that the most recent kernels will fully support the hardware on this netbook in the majority of cases. I have run Crunchbang, Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 and 9.10, as well as the recent Fedora 12 Xfce Spin on this netbook with little to no hand configuration required. And although Pearl White might be considered a less "masculine" color, it is also a less fingerprint prone color as well so you don't end up feeling the need to wipe it down with your microfiber cloth every five minutes. Bottom line is that it is the same sturdy, reliable hardware and build that you have come to know and love with the Eee PC series coupled with the maturity and reliability to run most modern Linux distributions with confidence, if you choose to do so. Very happy with mine and have not even considered shopping around for a new netbook despite new advances and my usual propensity to hop on the latest and greatest technology. Highly recommended if you are a GNU/Linux fan.
